Shelley Barlow, PhD

Shelley has over 30 years experience in the treatment of chronic pain. As well as being a PhD qualified physiotherapist she is a highly experienced psychotherapist with a Masters of Gestalt therapy with a special interest in the somatic presentations of trauma especially when manifesting as chronic pain and in persistent pelvic pain.

Carolyn has over 21 years experience as a Chartered Physiotherapist, specialising in the treatment of persistent pain and functional disorders. In addition to extensive clinical expertise, Carolyn also has lived experience of persistent pain having herself recovered from Fibromyalgia and other neuroplastic symptoms using the mind-body approach.
Lisa Branigan
As part of the senior clinical team, Lisa supports Dr Schubiner and Hal Greenham as they train practitioners in their evidence-based mind-body therapy and she is one of the clinical advisors for the FFCP online clinical program (individual support options with option B or C of the clinical treatment program)
Lisa has been coaching, training, consulting and mentoring for over 20 years and has lived experience of chronic symptoms having herself recovered from Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, plus other neuroplastic symptoms, using the mind-body approach.
She is deeply committed to helping the FFCP online clinical program users and training practitioners in their journey to learn all they can about mind-body issues and in making a recovery from their chronic symptoms.
Rebecca Kennedy, MD
Rebecca Kennedy, MD, has been a family medicine physician in Portland, Oregon since 2002. She has long been dedicated to improving treatment for medically unexplained symptoms. Dr. Kennedy began applying evidence-based neuroplasticity techniques to chronic symptoms while at Kaiser Permanente. She has extensive experience with long COVID, having led the long COVID specialty group for the Northwest Kaiser Permanente region, where she treated hundreds of patients and successfully restored many to good health. Inspired by the transformative results of this approach, Dr. Kennedy left Kaiser in 2023 to start her own clinic, focusing solely on this neuroplasticity model to treat chronic symptoms. She is a board member of the non-profit Psychophysiologic Disorders Association (PPDA).
Matthew McClanahan, DO, MA
Dr. Matt McClanahan is an osteopathic physician boarded in both Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and has other experience working in osteopathic manual approaches, integrative medicine, opiate addiction treatment, ISTDP, psychedelic-assisted somatic psychotherapy, and end-of-life care. He has an advanced certification in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT).
His passion for working with chronic pain and neuroplastic symptoms began in 2012 after working with Dr. Howard Schubiner during his residency and fellowship. This focus has only increased over the years and in 2018 he left traditional medical practice to start the Center for Insight Medicine, specializing in neuroscience approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of mindbody disorders. He is currently working on the PUPPY trial (Pursuing Understanding of Pain through Psychological therapY), a follow-up and expansion to the original PRT trial. “Dr. Matt” lives and works in Chattanooga, TN.

Professor Howard Schubiner MD, FACP
Howard’s Professional Background
Dr Howard Schubiner is a Co-Founder, Clinical Director and Medical Advisor of Freedom From Chronic Pain.
Howard is an Internal Medicine physician and pediatrician, and directs the Mind-Body Medicine Center at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, and is a Clinical Professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He has authored over 100 scientific publications and three books, including Unlearn Your Pain. Collaborating with Mark Lumley, PhD, he developed Emotion Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET), proven effective for chronic pain and recognized as a best practice by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Schubiner also co-developed Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), which a study published in JAMA Psychiatry found cured 66% of back pain patients. He lives and works in the Detroit area.
